Peer Coaching Coordinator - Kamloops
Impact BC is looking for an energetic coordinator to support the innovations and transformations currently taking place in primary healthcare around the province. The Patient Voices Network (www.patientvoices.ca) was established by Impact BC, in partnership with Patients as Partners, Ministry of Health Services. The Network is a mechanism to engage and support patient involvement in the primary healthcare system renewal and transformation.
The Peer Coaching Coordinator’s main focus is to successfully promote the peer coaching component of the Patient Voices Network within the Kamloops’ area. This includes the recruitment of both volunteer peer coaches as well as participants who will benefit from the peer coaching program. The Kamloops Coordinator will work closely with the Interior Health Network Liaison and other Patient Voices Network team members. The Peer Coach Coordinator would report directly to the Interior Liaison and the whole team reports to the Executive Director, Community Activation, Impact BC
Responsibilities

Promote the Peer Coaching Program in Kamloops area through attendance at community events and hosting information sessions

Recruit and support new peer coaches from the Kamloops area

Recruit and support individuals from the Kamloops area who will benefit from participating in the peer coaching program

Assist in the training and mentoring of peer coaches
-
Communicate policies and procedures to support the coaching experience around issues of limitations and confidentiality etc.

Assist in identifying and matching peer coaches to participants in the community

Closely monitor the work of the peer coaches
-
Assist the peer coaches to become knowledgeable about local and provincial resources
-
Assist with the evaluation of the peer coaching program in Kamloops and contribute to required reports
Qualifications
-
University degree in a relevant discipline e.g. community development, social work, or related degree
-
In depth knowledge of the Kamloops area including health and community agencies
-
Experience in marketing/promotions of community based programs to diverse stakeholders and the general public

Strong public speaking and presentation skills
-
Demonstrated experience in volunteer supervision and management
-
Exceptional interpersonal skills and demonstrated abilities to work with diverse communities
-
Excellent verbal, written and time management skills

Ability to maintain accurate statistics, records and reports

Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Ability to adhere to all program and agency policies and procedures

Perform other related duties as required
This is a part-time contract position (approximately 12 hrs/week) until March 31, 2011.This position requires flexible hours, including some evening and weekend work.

Northern Health Liaison
Impact BC is looking for a dynamic and creative Northern Health Liaison to contribute to an exciting new area of work to support the innovations and transformations currently taking place in primary healthcare around the province. The Patient Voices Network (www.patientvoices.ca) was established by Impact BC, in partnership with Patients as Partners, Ministry of Health Services. The Network is a mechanism to engage and support patient involvement in the primary healthcare system renewal and transformation.
The Northern Health Liaison’s main focus is to develop and support the Patient Voices Network in the northern part of the province, primarily through the Northern Health Authority’s initiatives. This role works closely with other Patient Voices Network team members and is supervised by the team lead. The whole team reports to the Executive Director, Community Activation, Impact BC.
Responsibilities

Recruiting patients from the North to register in the Network and to include representation from diverse communities such as Aboriginal/First Nations, diverse cultures, and young adults (aged 19-29 years), as well as representation from communities across the North
-
Recruiting patients into the Activated Network of the Patient Voices Network with diverse representation as described above
-
Working with the Northern Health Authority to find placements for patients to become active on Patient Boards, Advisory Committees or in primary healthcare transformation activities which require a patient voice
-
Developing community based placements for patients interested in getting involved in healthcare improvement activities at the local level
-
Recruiting and supporting patients who will be trained as peer coaches
-
Working with the Northern Health Authority, other non-governmental organizations and the Integrated Health Networks to find patients who require coaching
-
Speaking on behalf of and representing the Patient Voices Network at appropriate meetings, conferences, forums etc. in the North
-
Assist in the organization and facilitation of at least 4 orientation/training sessions in the Northern Health region

Measuring and evaluating the impact of all aspects of the Patient Voices Network activities in the north of BC
-
Participating as a full member of the Patient Voices Network team based at Impact BC in Vancouver
Qualifications
-
University degree in a relevant discipline e.g. community development, social work, health management
-
At least 5 years experience preferably in a health related discipline and or nonprofit organization
-
In depth knowledge and understanding of primary healthcare in BC
-
Energetic, positive style that can motivate patients/citizens to become engaged and sustain their commitment to the project.

Maturity, diplomacy and a high degree of professionalism along with a resourceful nature
-
Strong facilitation and presentation skills, and knowledge of adult education models
-
Demonstrated ability to build relationships with diverse stakeholders including senior administrators and health professionals
-
Demonstrated ability to pro-actively manage time, prioritize multiple tasks, work under pressure and meet rapid and competing deadlines
-
Ability to work as a team player as well as independently
-
Access to a reliable vehicle is essential

Valid BC Driver’s License and a satisfactory driving record

Work requires a willingness to work a flexible schedule and travel in the Northern Health region

Access to home office
This is a part-time contract position (approximately 21 hrs/week) requiring flexible hrs. Some evening and weekend work may be required.
